First Lady Jill Biden has been mocked by social media users for comparing Latino people to tacos.
Dr Biden made the comments during her speech at the annual conference of UnidosUS in San Antonio on Monday.
The first lady was praising high-profile civil rights icon Raul Yzaguirre, who founded the National Council of La Raza in 1968.
“Raul helped build this organisation with the understanding that the diversity of this community — as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio — is your strength,” Dr Biden said.
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists critcised the remarks, claiming Dr Biden is relying on stereotypes.
