Tim McGraw’s performance Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis paid tribute to the city’s newest star: the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark.
The country music superstar, 56, hit the stage in Clark’s new No. 22 Fever jersey — a nod that didn’t go unnoticed by the WNBA team.
“We like it, we love it,” the Fever’s X account posted Thursday, mimicking McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It” hit.
McGraw, who rocked Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes jersey at a previous show, congratulated the 6-foot guard on Monday after she was selected first overall by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
“From the NCAA to the WNBA… with a pit stop on SNL in between!! Couldn’t be a bigger fan. Congrats@CaitlinClark22! The @IndianaFever are lucky to have you on the team. #girlpower#WNBADraft,” he wrote Monday on X.
The NCAA Division I all-time scoring leader, Clark led the Hawkeyes to back-to-back national championship appearances in the past two seasons (Iowa lost to LSU and South Carolina, respectively) and was widely projected to be the top pick in this year’s WNBA draft.
Clark, 22, is coming off a whirlwind few days, which included a cameo on “Saturday Night Live” and morning show appearances in New York before arriving in Indianapolis for Wednesday’s introductory press conference with the Fever.
“I’m super excited to be here,” Clark said earlier this week. “I’m super happy to be here. Thank you to the Fever, the Pacers. This is a dream come true, these are the moments you dream of.”
Clark is set to make $338,056 over the next four seasons with the Fever — with the conversation continuing to take the national stage — and is expected to sign an eight-figure endorsement deal with Nike, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday.
Clark apparel is in high demand as Fanatics noted on its website this week that it will not ship out another batch of Nike jerseys until August.
The Fever will open the 2024 WNBA season on the road against the Connecticut Sun on May 14.
Indiana will host the New York Liberty in their home opener on May 16.
