A jury found former Celtics star Glen “Big Baby” Davis guilty on Wednesday of conspiracy charges related to a scheme to defraud the NBA’s healthcare system.

Davis was accused by prosecutors of making claims for dental and medical procedures that never took place.

Former NBA player Will Bynum was also found guilty.

The two players each could face up to 20 years in prison, but according to Bloomberg, the sentences are unlikely to be that long.

Over a dozen former NBA players were charged in 2021 related to the scheme, which allegedly totaled over $5 million.

Earlier this year, Terrence Williams, who was selected 11th overall in the 2009 draft, admitted to being the ringleader of the scheme and was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Sebastian Telfair and Darius Miles pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges related to the scam and are both awaiting sentencing.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams issued a statement Wednesday after the convictions of Davis and Bynum.

“While many of the more than 20 defendants convicted in this case were well-known NBA stars, their conduct was otherwise a typical fraudulent scheme designed to defraud the NBA’s health care plan and net the defendants over $5 million in illicit profits,” the statement said.

“Today’s conviction exemplifies that despite notoriety or success in sports or any other field, no one is exempt from criminal charges if they engage in fraud.”

Davis played in the NBA from 2008-15, spending his first four seasons with the Celtics and later playing for the Magic and Clippers.

He was a member of the Celtics during their 2007-08 NBA championship season.
