US President Joe Biden says he expects Russia will invade Ukraine and will “prevail over time”.
Nearly 100,000 troops have mobilised at the border, raising tensions between the two nations.
The president made the comments at his second solo White House Press conference, marking one year in office.
He warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of significant consequences if his forces do move in.
“The cost of going into Ukraine in terms of physical loss of life for the Russians, they’ll be able to prevail over time but it’s going to be heavy, it’s going to be real, it’s going to be consequential,” President Biden said.
