Observations from Giants practice on Wednesday:

Saquon is on

Running back Saquon Barkley was particularly explosive on Wednesday, taking multiple runs to the house as if the 90-degree heat didn’t faze him one bit. Whether it was directly up the middle or along the sidelines, Barkley blazed through the Giants’ defense one play after another.

Rookie Woes

First-year tight end Daniel Bellinger, who was mostly responsible for quarterback Daniel Jones’ lone interception against the Bengals on Sunday, had a similar play unfold during practice. A throw from Jones tipped off his fingers and onto the turf for an incompletion. Bellinger is vying for a starting spot.

Caught my eye

Receiver David Sills, who head coach Brian Daboll has said is not only competing for a roster spot, but also for playing time, faked a defender out of his cleats and sent him tumbling to the ground to get wide open for a pass during 1-on-1 drills against cornerbacks. Jones also connected with Sills during team drills.

Medical report

OL Shane Lemieux (foot), LB Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee) and LB Elerson Smith (ankle/foot) did not participate in practice. RB Matt Breida, RB Gary Brightwell, OL Jon Feliciano, OL Josh Ezeudu, OL Jamil Douglas, DL Leonard Williams and CB Cor’Dale Flott all returned to team drills. Safety Dane Belton ran on the side with a trainer for the first time since breaking his collarbone at the beginning of training camp. Kicker Graham Gano (concussion) was out on the field in a red jersey, indicating he could be on track to be cleared for the preseason finale Sunday against the Jets.
